Intercessions

O Lord Jesus Christ, your mercies and loving-kindness are from all eternity. Because of your love, you become man, living with us, you suffered, died and rose again for the salvation of those who rejected you. Now you reign at the right hand of God the Father, hearing the prayers of those who call upon you: incline your ear, and hear my humble prayer, offered as incense before you on behalf of all.

Remember your One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Confirm, strengthen, extend, and increase her. Guard her in peace, for ever proof against the gates of hell. Calm the dissensions of the faithful, foil the plans of the powers of darkness, dispel the prejudice of the nations, and quickly ruin and root out the risings of heresy, frustrating them by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on George, our President, David, our Governor, Byron, our Mayor, and all in authority throughout the world; protect their power with peace, and subdue under their feet every enemy and foe, and speak peace and blessing in their hearts for all your people, and grant that in their calm we too may lead a quiet and peaceful life in true belief, in all piety and honesty.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on all you have called to feed your people; and by their prayers, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on those whom I have offended or scandalized by my madness or inadvertence, and whom I have led into evil and harmful deeds; by your divine providence restore them again to the way of salvation.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on those who hate and offend me, and do me harm, and let them not perish because of me, a sinner.

Illumine with the light of your grace all who seek you and guide those who wander far in their journey to you. Bring them to unity with you and with the community of those who serve you in faith.

Remember, O Lord, those who have departed from this life, faithful rulers in the world and in the Church, and all the faithful: grant them rest with the Saints.

O Lord, hear my prayer; O God, be true to yourself and listen to my plea for mercy. In your righteousness answer me. For the foe hunts after my soul; into the earth he tramples my very life, forcing me into the darkness of those long dead. My spirit faints within me, my heart is numb with despair. Rouse us at the time for prayer strengthened in your commandments, and holding firmly within us the memory of your judgements. The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Amen.

Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand up to him, strong in faith. Lord have mercy! Thanks be to God.

How glorious You are in the springtime, when every creature awakens to new life and joyfully sings Your praises with a thousand tongues! You are the source of life, the destroyer of death. To pray to You lifts the spirit, refreshes the soul. Where You are not, there is only emptiness; hearts are smitten with sadness; nature, and life itself, becomes sorrowful. Where You are, the soul is filled with abundance, and its song resounds like a torrent of life:

When the sun is setting, when quietness falls, like the peace of eternal sleep, and the silence of the spent day reigns, then in the splendor of its declining rays, filtering through the clouds, I see Your dwelling-place. Firey and purple, gold and blue, they speak prophet-like of the ineffable beauty of Your presence, and call to us in their majesty. We turn to the Father:

Glory to You, covering the earth with peace.
Glory to You for the last ray of the sun as it sets.

The dark storm-clouds of life bring no terror to those in whose hearts Your fire is burning brightly. Outside is the darkness of the whirlwind, the terror and howling of the storm, but in the heart, in the presence of Christ, there is light and peace, silence. The heart sings:

I see Your heavens resplendent with stars. How glorious You are, radiant with light! Eternity watches me by the rays of the distant stars. I am small, insignificant, but the Lord is at my side: Your right arm guides me wherever I go.

Glory to You for our unquenchable thirst for communion with God.

In the wondrous blending of sounds, it is Your call we hear. When in my childhood I called upon You consciously for the first time, You heard my prayer; You filled my heart with the blessing of peace. Blessed are they that will share in the King’s banquet; but already on earth You give me a foretaste of this blessedness. What sort of praise can I give You? I have never heard the song of the cherubim, a joy reserved for the spirits above. But I know the praises that nature sings to You. I have seen how the rising sun rejoices in You, how the song of the birds is a chorus of praise to You. I have heard the mysterious murmurings of the forests about You, and the winds singing Your praise as they stir the waters. I ahve understood how the choirs of stars proclaim Your glory as they move forever in the depths of infinite space. What is my poor worship? All nature obeys You, I do not. Yet while I live, I see Your love, I long to thank You, pray to You, and call upon Your Name:

Thursday: Truly, O Lord, You have translated to bliss and the enjoyment of Your blessings, the two trustworthy preachers, theologians, and heads of Your disciples; for You accepted their struggles and death as better than any sacrifice, O You Who alone know the secrets of our hearts.

Friday: O You, Who of Your own good will was elevated upon the Cross, bestow Your bounties upon the new people who are called by Your Name, O Christ our God; by Your might make our believing rulers glad, granting them victory over their adversaries. May Your aid be a covering of peace, a trophy of invincibility.

Saturday: Give rest, O Christ, to the souls of Your servants who are with the saints, where there is no suffering nor sorrow, and no sighs, but eternal life.

Both now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Theotokion: O Theotokos, you are the true vine who did bud forth for us the Fruit of life. Implore him, we beseech you, O Lady, together with the apostles and all the saints, that He will have mercy on our souls.

O God of love, you are the true Sun of the world, evermore risen and never going down. We pray you to shine in our hearts, that the darkness of sin and the mist of error being driven away, we may this day, and all our life long, walk without stumbling in the way you have prepared for us, which is Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

V. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
R. Blessed be God’s kingdom, now and ever and unto ages of ages.

O heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, everywhere present and filling all things; Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and abide in us and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O good one.

In rising from sleep to begin another day, O holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I give thanks to you for being so patient with me in your great goodness, for never showing any anger with me in spite of my failings and laziness, and for refusing to let me perish in my transgressions. Instead, you have shown me your great love for mankind over and over again, raising me up from every new trouble I fall into, that again and again I might cry out to you with each new day, praising your almighty power. Now, then, enlighten the eyes of my mind and heart and open my lips to ponder and reflect on your word, to come to an understanding of your commandments, to do your will in all things, and to sing to you from the depths of my heart, forever glorifying your most holy name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father, through whom all things were made. For us and for our salvation, He came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and He suffered and was buried. On the third day He rose according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I expect the resurrection of the dead. And the life of the age to come. Amen.

Lord, give me the strength to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely on Your holy will. Reveal Your will to me every hour of the day. Bless my dealings with all people. Teach me to treat all people who come to me throughout the day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Your will governs all. In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unexpected events, let me not forget that all are sent by you. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me the physical strength to bear the labors of this day. Direct my will, teach me to pray, pray in me.

Christ Jesus, after your Resurrection, You breathed the Holy Spirit on Your apostles and disciples. Grant that the same Spirit may perfect in our lives the work of Your grace and love. Grant us the Spirit of Fear Of The Lord that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You. the Spirit of Piety that we may find peace and fulfillment in the service of God while serving others; the Spirit of Fortitude that we may bear our cross with You and, with courage, overcome the obstacles that interfere with our salvation; the Spirit of Knowledge that we may know You and know ourselves and grow in holiness; the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our minds with the light of Your truth; the Spirit of Counsel that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom; Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom that we may aspire to the things that last forever; Teach us to be Your faithful disciples and animate us in every way with Your Spirit. Amen.

Most holy Lady, Theotokos! Unworthy as I am, I beseech you: By your powerful and holy prayers, rid my heart of all despair, of all sluggishness and slowness to understand, of all negligence and carelessness, of all improper and rationalizing thoughts. By your mighty intercession, purify my dark and clouded mind and rid my bruised and battered spirit of all this foolishness and evil. Put out the flames of my passions, free me from memories of evils long gone by, rescue me from every tendency to wrong, and see my need, O Lady, see my sorrow! In your goodness, help me, for you are on the lips of every generation, and your glorious name is honored unto ages of ages. Amen.


Arise, Jerusalem, and stand on high, and look about toward the east, and behold your children gathered together from the rising to the setting sun, at the Word of the Holy One, rejoicing that God has remembered them. For they went out from you on foot, led away by enemies; but the Lord will bring them back to you riding high in honour, as children of the Kingdom.
