At the Commencement of Any Work:
Bless, O Lord.

or

Lord Jesus Christ, Only-begotten Son of the Eternal Father, you taught us that we can do nothing without you. My Lord and my God, in faith I embrace your words with my heart and soul, and bow before you goodness; I am a sinner. Help to do in union with Thee this work which I am about to begin, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

After the Completion of Any Work:
Glory to you, O Lord.

or

O my Christ, you are the epitome and fullness of all good; fill my soul with joy and gladness. You are the all merciful one: save me! Amen.

Before Lessons:
Most gracious Lord, send down upon us the grace of your Holy Spirit to grant us intelligence and strengthen the powers of our soul, that we may attend to the instruction given us, and grow up to glorify you, our Creator, to gladden our parents, and to serve the Church and our people.

After Lessons:
We thank you, our Creator, for the grace you have given us to attend to this instruction. Bless our parents and teachers who are leading us to knowledge of good, and grant us energy and strength to persevere in our studies.

On Entering a Church:
Lord, because of your great love, I draw near to your house; toward your holy temple I fall in worship, filled with reverence for you. Lead me into the land of life and prosperity, for my enemies are on the watch for me; make your path straight before me so that I may praise you without distraction forever, One Divine Power worshipped in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

On Leaving a Church:
Now you may let your servant go in peace, Master, as you said you would. For my eyes have seen the salvation you prepared for all people: a light to enlighten the nations and to give glory to your people, Israel.

Before the Icon of Christ:
Christ, our God, we bow low before your most pure image, O Good One, begging you to forgive us our sins. You gladly ascended the cross in the flesh, of your own free will, to save us from Satan’s snares. For this we thank you, Lord, and we cry out to you: By coming to save the world from sin, you have filled all things with joy!

Before the Icon of the Theotokos:
Count us worthy of your affection and sympathy, O Theotokos, for you are a well-spring of compassion. Look upon a people that is forever sinning and, as always, manifest your power for us. With all our hope placed firmly in you, we salute you as once did Gabriel, the leader of the spirit hosts.

For the Priesthood:
O Lord Jesus Christ, enkindle the hearts of all Priests with the fire of zealous love for you. May they ever seek your glory; give them strength that they may work without ceasing in your earthly vineyard for the salvation of our souls and the glory of your all-honourable and majestic Name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

For the Church, of St Ephraim the Syrian:
O Christ our King and Son of God worshipped by all we sing praises to your compassion! You are our King and our God, the author of our life and our great hope. With one voice the heavenly hosts and the mortal ranks below join in your praise singing a song of thanks to you, for even though you were hidden before, you have manifested yourself to us in the latter days. When, in your love you were moved to do so, you came to us as the redemption liberation of the human race. In your compassion you cured our afflictions, cleansed our sins and raised the dead.

You established on earth the Holy Church as an icon of your Kingdom. You built her in love and established her in compassion. You betrothed yourself to her and purchase her by your suffering. But the one who hates us, in his shameless impudence, sends his servants to attack her. Lord, do not leave your holy Church without your care, that the world might claim your promises as regards the Church’s invincibility to be false. Do not let her majestic beauty be disfigured or her wealth be stolen. Fulfill your promise made to Peter; seal your words with deeds. Fortify her gates, strengthen her bars, exalt her horn, raise up her head. Bless and preserve her children, give peace to her priests and subdue those who wish her evil.

May your peace dwell in her and drive away from her all evil schisms. Grant that we may lead a calm, peaceful life in your fear. May we maintain our faith with great confidence and perfect love. May our life be pleasing to you and may we find your compassion on the day of reckoning. May we sing our praise without ceasing, to you, O Lord, and to your Father and to your Holy Spirit. Amen.

For Relatives and Friends:
Our heavenly Father, lover of all, most merciful and compassionate God, have mercy upon you servants (mention their names) for whom I humbly pray, commending them to your gracious care and compassion. God, be their guide and guardian in all their endeavors, lead them in the path of your truth, and draw them ever closer to you that, doing your will in all things, they may lead a godly and righteous life in love and reverence for you. Give them grace that they may be temperate, industrious, diligent, devout and charitable. Defend them against the assaults of the enemy, and grant them wisdom and strength to resist all temptation and corruption of this life. Direct them in the saving way of your Son Jesus Christ at the intercessions of his Holy Mother and the blessed Saints. Amen.

Of Married Persons:
O merciful God keep us ever mindful of the holiness of marriage and of our duty together to keep so. Grant us grace to continue in faithfulness and love; increase in us the spirit of mutual understanding and trust that daily troubles may not come between us. Bless us with all that we need so we may stand before you and all as a family after your own heart. And in your mercy, account us worthy of everlasting life. You are our sanctification and we send up glory to you: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Of Single Persons:
O Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, you are the epitome of the purity in which we are commanded to live. When temptation arises or when strong passions seek to overwhelm me, give me the strength I need to remain constant in virtue and innocent in thought, word, and deed; doing only those things as are well-pleasing to you. Grant me growth in wisdom and understanding, that I may serve you in holiness all the days of my life: through the intercessions of the all-holy Theotokos, of my Patron (name him or her) and all your Saints. Amen.

Of a Child:
Our Father in heaven, bless my parents, my guardians, and all those who are in authority over me. Make me always thankful for their love and tender care, and all the benefits I receive from. Help me to be respectful and obedient to them in all things according to your will and give me the grace to perform all my duties carefully and faithfully as for you alone. Help me to avoid undesirable company and influence, and to resist any temptation that may come my way so that I may live a sober, righteous and godly life, always praising you and glorifying your Holy Name. Amen.

Before a Journey:
O Lord Jesus Christ our God, you are the way, the truth and the life. Divine Master, be my companion, guide and guardian during my journey; deliver and protect me from all danger, misfortune and temptation; so that, being defended by your divine power, I will have a peaceful and successful journey and arrive safely at my destination. I put my of my trust and hope in you, together with your Eternal Father, and your All-holy Spirit. To you be all praise, honor and glory: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

In Time of Trouble:
I believe, O Lord, and I confess that all things work together for the good for those who love you. You know my misery and suffering in which you are my only hope and refuge. I am the work of your hands and you know my weakness so I flee to you for relief and comfort. In all things you have made us are more than conquerors through the One who loves us and with your Holy Apostle Paul I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord. Grant me grace and endow me with patience and strength to endure my tribulations resting in your divine will and trusting in your infinite love and compassion. In your time I know you will deliver me from this trouble, and turn my distress into comfort. So even now I rejoice in your mercy, and exalt and praise your Holy Name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Thanksgiving after Trouble has Passed:
Almighty and merciful God, Divine ruler of us all, I offer humble and hearty thanks to you: in your mercy and loving kindness you have graciously delivered me from my trouble and misery. I pray for your helping grace, that I may obediently walk after you in the way of Jesus, leading a sober, righteous and godly life, ever offering thanks for the mercies and blessings you shower upon me – even though I am unworthy of such gifts! Grant that in all things I may continually offer the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Of a Person Suffering Illness:
O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, the Good Physician of our souls and bodies, you lived among us as one of us and in your tender love and compassion you healed all manner of sickness and affliction. Visit me in my suffering: grant me grace and strength to bear this sickness with humble patience and in submission to your will, ever trusting in your loving kindness and tender mercy. Bless the means used for my recovery, and those who administer them. I have often sinned against you – in thought word and deed – and so am weak against the evils of this world. Therefore, I humbly beg you to look upon my weakness and deal not with me after my sins but rather according to your great love, have compassion on me; let mercy and justice meet and deliver me from this sickness and suffering I am undergoing. Fulfill your promise that all things are for the good of those who love you: grant that this illness may be a further working out of my salvation according to you will, that I may spend the rest of my days in your love and fear. Let me be helped by your grace and sanctified by the Holy Mysteries and being thus strengthened, I may be prepared for the living of your Eternal Life in the company of your blessed Saints. There let me sing your praise and glory together with your Father who is enteral and your all holy, good and life-giving Spirit. Amen.

Thanksgiving After Recovery:
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Source of life and Fountain of all good things, I bless you Holy Name, and offer to thanksgiving to you for having delivered me from my sickness and restored me to health. Continue me in your grace, I pray, that I may keep my good resolutions and correct the errors of my life, and improve in virtue, and live a new life in pious awe of you, doing your will in all things, and devoting fully to your service this new life which you have given me. Thus living only for you, let me be ready when you call me to stand before you, O heavenly Father, to whom with your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and your all-holy and Life-giving Spirit, is due all honor, praise, glory, and thanksgiving: now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

For the Sick:
O holy Father, heavenly Physician of our souls and bodies, you sent your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to heal all our ailments and deliver us from death: visit and heal your servant N., granting release from pain and restoration to health and vigor, that s/he may give thanks and bless your holy Name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

For the Dead:
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend the souls of your servants N. & N. Grant them rest together with all your blessed Saints, where your light shines forever. Grant that our present lives may be godly, sober, and blameless, so that we, too, may be accounted worthy to enter into your heavenly Kingdom with those we love but see no longer: for you, O Christ our God, are the Resurrection and the Life, and the Rest of your departed servants, and to you we ascribe all glory: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Before Breakfast:
O, Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your Name’s sake.

Our Father, in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your kingdom come; your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from the evil one.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Christ, our God, bless the food and drink of your servants, for you are holy now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

After Breakfast:
How truly right it is to honour your good fortune, O Theotokos, for you are the supremely blessed and blameless mother of our God! You are more honourable than the cherubim, beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim! In Virginity you gave birth to God, the word: O you who are truly Theotokos, we extol you!

Prayers Before the Main Meal:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: both now and forever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Lord, be merciful and bless this food for us!

Christ, our God, bless the food and drink of your servants, for you are holy now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayers After the Main Meal:
We give you thanks, Christ, God, for your earthly gifts! Do not deprive us of your heavenly kingdom, but as you came among your disciples, O saviour, giving them your peace, come also among us and save us.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: both now and forever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Lord, be merciful and bless this food for us!

Bless’d be our God for dealing mercifully with us and for nourishing us with his abundant gifts, in his grace and love for mankind: now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayers Before the Secondary Meal:
May the poor eat and be filled and may they who seek the Lord exult in him, and may their hearts live forever!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: both now and forever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Lord, be merciful and bless this food for us!

Christ, our God, bless the food and drink of your servants, for you are holy now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayers After the Secondary Meal:
Your womb became a sacred table, O Theotokos, for it held the bread of heaven, Christ, our God, the nourisher of all, who said that anyone who eats of him shall live forever!

You are more honorable than the cherubim, beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim! In virginity, you gave birth to God, the word: O you who are truly Theotokos, we extol you!

May God be with us through his grace and love for mankind: now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

First, examine your conscience by going through each hour of the day, beginning from the time you rose from your bed, and recall to memory: where you went, how you acted and reacted towards all persons and other creatures, and what you talked about. Recall and consider with all care your thoughts, words and deeds from morning till evening. If you have done any good, do not ascribe it to yourself but to God Who gives us all the good things and thank Him. Pray that He may confirm you in this good and enable you to do other good things. But if you have done anything evil, admit that this comes from yourself and your own weakness, from bad habits or weak will. Repent and pray to the Lover of men that He may forgive you, and promise Him firmly never to do this evil again.

(Time for silent meditation/journaling)

Prayer of John Chrysostom before reading Scripture:

O Lord Jesus Christ, open the eyes of my heart, that I may hear your word and understand it; that I may do your will as a sojourner upon the earth. Do not hide your commandments from me but rather open my eyes that I may perceive the wonders of your law. Reveal your secret wisdom to me. You are all of my hope, O my God! Enlighten my mind and heart with the light of your knowledge and let me not only cherish those things which are written, but grant also that I may do them; that in reading the lives and sayings of the saints I may not sin, but rather be restored, enlightened and sanctified even unto the salvation of my soul, and the inheritance of life everlasting. You are the one true light to those who lie in darkness, and every good deed and every good gift comes from you and to you do we ascribe all glory, together with your Father who is without beginning and your all-holy, good and life creating Spirit, now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Daily Synaxarion

The Beginning Prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of the prayers of your most pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to you, our God, glory to you.

O heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, everywhere present and filling all things; Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and abide in us and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O good one.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

(From Easter to Ascension, say rather “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!” 3x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O, Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your Name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (3x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your kingdom come; your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from the Evil One.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: Since there is no excuse for our behavior, in our sinfulness we can only offer you this prayer, O master: Have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have placed our trust in you. Do not be angry with us nor mindful of our wickedness, but in your tender loving kindness, look on us once more and deliver us from our enemies, for you are our God and we are your people, all the work of your own hands, and it is your name that we constantly invoke.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Open to us the portals of your motherly concern, O blessed Theotokos, so that by trusting in your help that never fails, we may find deliverance through you from every adversity, for you are the salvation of the christian people.

Lord have mercy. (12x)

Prayer I, of St. Macarius the Great to God the Father:
O Eternal God and King of all creation, in your grace you have brought me to this hour, forgive me the sins that I have committed today in thought, word and deed. Cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from all defilement of flesh and spirit; and grant that I may pass this night asleep in peace. When I rise from my bed grant that I may praise your most holy Name all the days of my life, triumphing over my fleshly passions and all the fleshless foes that war against me. Deliver me, O Lord, from vain and frivolous thoughts, and from defilement by evil desires. Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer II, of St. Antioch to our Lord Jesus Christ:
Divine and Perfect King of all, Word of the Father, Jesus Christ, never leave me but rather in your mercy abide in your servant. O Jesus, Good Shepherd of your sheep, do not deliver me to the serpent’s revolt nor to Satan’s will for the seed of corruption is in me. Beloved Lord, Jesus Christ, my God and King, guard me as I sleep by the light that never fails: your Holy Spirit, by Whom you sanctify your disciples. Lord grant your unworthy servant salvation on my bed. Enlighten my mind with the light of understanding of your Holy Gospel. Enlighten my soul with the love of your Cross. Enlighten my heart with the purity of your Word. Enlighten my body with your passionless Passion. Keep my thoughts in your humility. And wake me in the morning to sing your glory, for you are supremely glorified, with your eternal Father, and the most Holy Spirit forever. Amen.

Prayer III, of St. Ephrem the Syrian to the Most Holy Spirit:
O Lord, Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, have compassion and mercy on your sinful servant and pardon my unworthiness, and forgive me all the sins that I committed today in my humanity and my inhumanity – behaving worse than a beast! Forgive my voluntary and involuntary sins, known and unknown, from my youth and from evil suggestions, and from my brazenness, and from boredom. If I have sworn by your Name or blasphemed it in thought, blamed or reproached anyone, or in my anger have detracted or slandered anyone, or grieved anyone, or if I have been angry about anything, or have told a lie, if I have slept unnecessarily, or if a beggar has come to me and I despised or neglected him, or if I have troubled or quarreled with anyone, or if I have condemned anyone, or have boasted, or have been proud, or lost my temper with anyone, or if when standing in prayer my mind has been distracted by the glamour of this world, or if I have had depraved thoughts or have overeaten, or have drunk excessively, or have laughed frivolously, or have thought evil, or have seen the beauty of someone and been wounded by it in my heart, or said indecent things, or made fun of another’s sin when my own faults are countless, or been neglectful of prayer, or have done some other wrong that I cannot remember – for I have done all this and much more – have mercy, my Lord and Creator, on your wretched and unworthy servant, and absolve and forgive and deliver me in your goodness and love for us, so that, lustful, sinful and wretched as I am, I may lie down and sleep and rest in peace. And I shall worship, praise and glorify your most honourable Name, with the Father and His only-begotten Son, now and ever, and for all ages. Amen.

Prayer IV, of St. Macarius the Great:
What can I bring to you? How can ever repay you, O Immortal King, the bestower of great gifts, O generous Lord, the Lover of us all? Though I have been lazy in in my work for you and have done nothing good, yet you have brought me to the end of the day seeking the conversion and salvation of my soul. Be merciful towards me for I am a sinner devoid of any good deeds, and raise up my fallen soul though I am defiled by immeasurable sins. Take away every evil thought of this earthly life. O only Sinless One forgive me all the sins I have committed against you this day, in knowledge or in ignorance, in word, deed or thought or through any of my senses. Stand over me and protect me from every assault of the enemy through your divine Power, and your great Love for us all. O God, cleanse the multitude of my sins. Be pleased to deliver me from the snares of the evil one, O Lord, and save my passionate soul. Coming in glory, illumine me with the light of your countenance. May I fall into a sleep free of apparitions and rest without condemnation . Keep the thoughts of your servant untroubled, and keep far from me every satanic activity. Enlighten the reason-endowed eyes of my heart that I fall not into death. Send to me an angel of peace as a guide and guardian for my soul and body and grant him power to deliver me from my enemies. Then, when I arise from my bed, I shall offer prayers of thanksgiving to you. Hear me, Lord! I am your sinful servant, impoverished in will and conscience. Grant that I may learn from your words when I arise. Cause your Angels to drive demonic despondency far from me. May I bless your holy Name and praise and glorify Mary, the most pure Theotokos, whom you have given to sinners as an intercessor. Receive her prayers for us. We know that she imitates your love for us and never ceases her prayers. Through her intercessions – and those of all your saints – by the Sign of the precious Cross, O Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on my wretched soul! You are Holy and most glorified unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer V:
O Lord, our God, in your goodness and love for all, forgive me all the sins I have committed today in word, deed or thought. Grant me peaceful and undisturbed sleep. Send your Guardian Angel to guard and protect me from all evil. For you are the true guardian of our souls and bodies, and to you we ascribe glory, to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer VI:
O Lord our God, in Whom we believe and Whose Name we invoke above every name, grant us preparing for sleep relaxation of soul and body, and keep us from all temptations and dark pleasures. Stop the rushing of passions, and quench the burning of bodily tensions. Grant us to live chastely in word and act, that we may live a life of heroic virtue and not fall away from your promised blessings. Blessed are you for ever. Amen.

Prayer VII, of St. John Chrysostom (Supplicatory prayers corresponding to 24 hours of the day.)

Day
Lord, do not deprive me of your heavenly joys. Lord, deliver me from eternal torments. Lord, if I have sinned in mind or thought, in word or deed, forgive me. Lord, deliver me from all ignorance, forgetfulness, cowardice and stony insensibility. Lord, deliver me from every temptation. Lord, enlighten my heart which evil desires have darkened. Lord, I have sinned as a man, but you are God, have mercy on me, knowing the weakness of my soul. Lord, send your grace to my help, that I may glorify your holy Name. Lord Jesus Christ, write your servant in the Book of Life, and grant me a good end. O Lord my God, even though I have done nothing good in your sight, grant by your grace that I might make a good start. Lord, sprinkle the dew of your grace into my heart. Lord of heaven and earth remember your sinful and unworthy servant in your Kingdom. Amen.

Night
O Lord, accept me in penitence. O Lord, leave me not. O Lord, lead me not into temptation. O Lord, grant me good thoughts. O Lord, grant me tears and remembrance of death and compunction. O Lord, grant me the thought of confessing my sins. O Lord, grant me humility, chastity and obedience. O Lord, grant me patience, courage and meekness. O Lord, plant in me the root of all blessings, your fear, in my heart. O Lord, grant that I may love you with all my mind and soul, and always do your will. O Lord, protect me from dangerous people, demons, passions, and from every other harmful thing. O Lord as you act according to your own will, may your will be also in done me, a sinner. You are blessed for ever. Amen.

Prayer VIII, to our Lord Jesus Christ
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of your most honourable Mother, your bodiless Angels, your Prophet and Forerunner and Baptist, all the God-inspired Apostles, the radiant and victorious Martyrs, the holy and God-bearing Fathers and Mothers, and by the prayers of all the Saints, deliver me from the besetting presence of the devil. My Lord and Creator, desiring not the death of the sinner, but rather his conversion and life, grant me also such conversion. Even in my wretchedness snatch me from the jaws of the pernicious serpent, who is ravening to devour me and drag me down to hell alive. My Lord, my Comfort, Who lived in corruptible flesh for my miserable sake, deliver me from misery and grant comfort to my miserable soul. Implant in my heart the desire to fulfill your commandments, and forsake my evil deeds, and to receive your joys. Save me, O Lord, for you are my only hope. Amen.

Prayer IX, of Peter the Studite to the Most Holy Theotokos:
Before you, the Most Pure Mother of God, I who am wretched fall down and pray: you know, O Queen that I sin constantly and anger your Son and my God. No matter how often I repent, I appear a liar before God, and repent with trembling. Can God shake me and I do those same things again an hour later? Knowing this, my Mistress, O Lady Theotokos, I pray: have mercy on me, strengthen me and grant that I may do good. You know, my Lady Theotokos, that I abhor my evil deeds and love the Law of my God with all my mind. But, most pure Lady, I do not know how I can love what I abhor and turn away from what is good. Do not allow my will to be done, Most Pure One, for it is not appropriate. May the will of your Son and my God be done. May He save and enlighten me, and give me the Grace of His Holy Spirit, in order that I might stop sinning from this time on and live the remainder of my life in obedience to your Son, to Whom belongs all glory, honor and majesty, with His Father Who is without beginning, and His Most Holy, good and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer X, of Intercession to the Most Holy Mother of God:
Good Mother of the Good King, O most pure Theotokos, Mary most blessed: Bathe my suffering soul in the plentiful mercies of your Son, and, by your intercessions, set me firmly on the path of virtue, that, throughout the rest of my days, I may walk before God without stain or condemnation and, thanks to your good prayers, attain the kingdom on high, O virgin Theotokos, O only pure and blessed Lady.

Prayer XI, of Intercession to the holy Guardian Angel:
O Angel of Christ, my holy Guardian and Protector of my soul and body, forgive me all my sins of today. Deliver me from all the wiles of the enemy, that I may not anger my God by any sin. Pray for me, your sinful and unworthy servant, that you may present me as one worthy of the kindness and mercy of the All-holy Trinity and the Mother of my Lord Jesus Christ, and of all the Saints. Amen.

Prayer XII, to your patron saint (this one is to St Raphael of Brooklyn):
O wise and loving hierarch of the Church of Christ God, good shepherd of the lost sheep in America, sustenance for our souls, admonition for the lost, defense against foes, uniter of the Orthodox world, proclaimer of the truth, uplifter of the oppressed, guardian of the faith, father to orphans, protector of widows, friend of the poor, reconciler of foes, great light from Antioch, new Moses leading your people out of the wilderness into the Promised Land, new Elias granting to the holy Church a double portion of your spirit, new Ezra building up the Temple of God, new Apostle of Christ our God, lover of the holy prayers and divine services, adornment of the holy Church, seeker of the lost, joy of all the Orthodox, son of Antioch, boast of America, O holy Father Raphael: Mercifully hearken unto these supplications which are offered by your grateful children. O high priest of the Most High God, thrice-blessed of the All-holy Trinity, lift up your hands and bless us. O comforter of the oppressed, bearer of the heavenly King, the Comforter and Spirit of Truth, take us to your bosom and shelter us from all harm. Servant of the Lamb, both a faithful shepherd and a faithful sheep of His flock, take up your staff and guide us to secure and verdant pastures. Our spiritual father, who are a son and heir of the Unoriginate Father, lift up your arms and intercede with him that the Church may be preserved in tranquility; that her God-appointed hierarchs may be granted peace, safety, honor, health and length of days, rightly dividing the word of truth; that her priests may be clothed with righteousness; that her God-fearing monastics may shine forth as paradisaical lights upon the world; and that her Christ-loving people may be granted mercy, life, peace, health, salvation and visitation, pardon and forgiveness of sins. Raphael, pray to God that we may live a peaceful life in this age, and that we may see the good things in the age which is to come, always glorifying the unoriginate Father, the only-begotten Son and the all-holy and good and life-giving Spirit, the consubtantial Trinity, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Hymn to the Theotokos:
O Victorious Leader of Triumphant Hosts!
We, your servants, delivered from evil,
sing our grateful thanks to you, O Theotokos!
As you possess invincible might,
set us free from every calamity
So that we may sing: Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!

O all-glorious and ever-virgin mother of Christ, our God: Take our prayers to your divine Son, that, for your sake, he will save our souls.

I place all my trust in you, O mother of God; place the veil of your motherly protection over me, your humble and unworthy servant.

O virgin Theotokos, do not disdain me for all my sins, for I need your help and intercession. I put all my trust in you, O mother of God: Have mercy on me.

The Father is my hope; the Son is my refuge; the Holy Spirit is my protector: All-holy Trinity, glory to you!

Prayer of Repentance:
O God, absolve, remit, and pardon our voluntary and involuntary sins, in word and deed, known and unknown, by day and by night, in mind and thought; forgive us all, in your goodness and love for us.

Prayer of Intercession:
O Lord, Lover of all, forgive those who hate and wrong us. Do good to those who do good. Grant our brothers and relatives their saving petitions and eternal life. Visit the sick and grant them healing. Guide those at sea. Travel with travellers. Struggle alongside the Orthodox. To those who serve and are kind to us, grant remission of sins. Pour your mercy on those who have asked us to pray for them despite our unworthiness. Remember, O Lord, our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep, and grant them rest where the light of your countenance shines. Remember, O Lord, those who bear fruit and do good works in your holy churches and grant their saving petitions and eternal life. Remember us also, O Lord, your humble, sinful and unworthy servants: enlighten our minds with the light of your knowledge, and guide us in the way of your commandments, by the prayers of our immaculate Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, and of all your Saints, for you are blessed unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Daily Confession of Sins:
I confess to you, my Lord, God and Creator, to the One glorified and worshipped in Holy Trinity, to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, all my sins which I have committed all the days of my life, at every hour, in the present and in the past, day and night, in thought, word and deed; by gluttony, drunkenness, secret eating, idle talking, despondency, indolence, contradiction, neglect, aggressiveness, self love, hoarding, stealing, lying, dishonesty, curiosity, jealousy, envy, anger, resentment, and remembering wrongs, hatred, mercenariness; and by all my senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch; and all other sins, spiritual and bodily, through which I have angered you, my God and Creator, and caused injustice to my neighbours. Sorrowing for this, but determined to repent, I stand guilty before you, my God. With tears, I beg you, my Lord and God, for your help. In your mercy, forgive me all that is past, and absolve me from all I have confessed in your presence, for you are good and the Lover of All. Amen.

Prayer of St. John of Damascus.(To be said pointing at the bed.)
O Lord, Lover of all, is this bed to be my coffin, or will you enlighten my wretched soul with one more day? Here the coffin lies before me, and here death confronts me. Lord, I do fear your Judgment and the endless torments, yet I do not cease doing evil. My Lord God, I continually anger you, and your immaculate Mother, and all the Heavenly Powers, and my holy Guardian Angel. I know, O Lord, that I am not worthy of your love, but rather I deserve condemnation and every torment. But, whether I want it or not, save me, O Lord. For to save a good man is no great thing, and to have mercy on the pure is nothing wonderful, for these are worthy of your mercy. But show the wonder of your mercy to me, a sinner. In this way reveal your love for sinners, lest my wickedness prevail over your unutterable goodness and mercy. Order my life as you will.

Lighten my eyes, O Christ God, lest I sleep in death, and lest my enemy say: I have prevailed over him.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Be my soul’s Defender, O God, for I step over many snares. Deliver me from them and save me, O Good One, in your love for us.

Now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Let us ever hymn the most glorious Mother of God, holier than the holy Angels, and confess her with heart and mouth to be the Theotokos, for she truly bore God incarnate for us, and prays without ceasing for our souls. Amen.

Kiss your cross, and make the sign of the Cross from head to foot of the bed and from two sides, and then say:

Prayer to the Venerable Cross:
Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered; and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke vanishes, let them vanish; and as wax melts from the presence of fire, so let the demons perish from the presence of those who love God and who sign themselves with the Sign of the Cross and say in gladness: Hail, most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, you drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ crucified on you! He went down to hell and trampled on the power of the devil, and gave to us His venerable Cross to drive away all enemies. O most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, help me with our holy Lady, the Virgin Theotokos, and with all the Saints throughout the ages. Amen.

Just before getting into bed, say:
Guard me, O Lord, by the power of your holy and life-giving Cross, and keep me from all evil.

Just before yielding yourself up to sleep, say:
Into your hands, O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I surrender my spirit and body; bless me, save me, and grant me eternal life. Amen.

Blessed is our God, always now and ever and unto ages of ages!

Give us this day the bread of Life; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, are yours: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (12x)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Come, let us worship God, our King, and bow down before him.
Come, let us worship Christ God, our King, and bow down before him.
Come, let us worship Christ, our King and our God, and bow down before him.

Psalm 83 (84)
How lovely are your dwellings, Lord God of power and might! My soul yearns and pines with longing for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh ring out their joy to the living God!

Even the sparrow finds a house, and the swallow, a nest for her young: near your altars, O Lord of power and might, O my king and my God! Happy are they who live in your house; they sing your praises all day long.

Happy the pilgrims who find their strength in you, who set their hearts on reaching you. Passing through the valley of the balsam trees they make it a place of blessing, as if the autumn rains had showered it; from there they go from place to place, soon to stand before the God of gods on Sion.

O Lord God of power and might! Hear my prayer! Lend an ear to me, God of Jacob! Turn your eyes, O God, our sovereign! Look on the face of the one you have anointed!

One day in your courts have I preferred to a thousand somewhere else, the threshold of the house of my God to the tent of the wicked. For the Lord God will sustain us and help us! He will show us his favor, his glory. The Lord will never refuse anything to those who walk in innocence. O Lord of power and might! Happy the man who trusts in you!

Psalm 84 (85)
With your favor, Lord, grace your own land, turn the tide of Jacob’s fortune. Forgive your people their guilt; do away with all trace of their sins. Turn away your wrath; master the heat of your anger.

Revive us, O God of our salvation; put an end to your resentment against us. Must your anger with us last forever? Will it never end?

Will you not restore us to life, that your people may rejoice in you? Let us see your loving kindness, Lord; give us your saving help.

Let me reveal what the Lord himself has to say: His voice is one that speaks peace: peace for his people, for his friends, for those who turn to him in their hearts. His help is close at hand for those who revere him, and his glory shall dwell in our land.

Mercy and truth will meet; justice and peace will embrace. Faithfulness shall spring forth from the earth, and justice shall look down from the heavens.

The Lord will give us prosperity, and the earth will yield its fruit. Justice shall go forth before him, and peace shall follow in his footsteps.

Psalm 85 (86)
Lend an ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and miserable! Look after my soul, for I am your friend; save your servant, O my God, for I trust in you. Pity me, O sovereign Lord, for I cry to you all day long!

Give joy to your servant, for to you, Lord, do I lift my soul! Lord, you are forgiving and good, full of love for all who call on you.

Hear my prayer, O Lord; attend to the sound of my voice. The day of my distress I call on you; if only you would answer me, O Lord!

Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord, nor can their works compare with yours. If you act, all nations will come to adore you, O Lord, to glorify your name, for you are great and you work wonders, O you who alone are God!

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; teach my heart to revere your name. With all my heart will I praise you, Lord my God! I will glorify your name, O eternal one!

For great is your mercy toward me, O most high! You have rescued my soul from the depths of the grave! O God the proud rise up to attack me; ruthless men hunt down my soul! Never do they give any thought to you!

But you, O Lord, God of tenderness and mercy, slow to anger, full of love and faithfulness, turn to me and pity me: Give triumph to your servant, to your faithful son, victory.

Show me proof of your favor, O good one, that my foes may see and be shamed. O, that you yourself would help and console me, O Lord!

(And again

Show me proof of your favor, O good one, that my foes may see and be shamed. O, that you yourself would help and console me, O Lord!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Glory to you, O God (x3 – with three prostrations).

Then one Kathisma of the Psalter with three prostrations after each Antiphon.

Christ our God, who at the ninth hour tasted death in the flesh for our sakes, slay our fleshly will and save us.

And as we repeat it we make a prostration to the ground, and likewise at the following two Verses.

O Lord, let my cry reach you! Let your word endow me with perception, as you promised.

Christ our God, who at the ninth hour tasted death in the flesh for our sakes, slay our fleshly will and save us.

Let my plea reach you; be true to your word and save me.

Christ our God, who at the ninth hour tasted death in the flesh for our sakes, slay our fleshly will and save us.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O Good one, born of a Virgin for our sakes and who endured crucifixion, who despoiled death by death and as God revealed resurrection, do not despise those whom you fashioned with your own hand; show your love for mankind, O Merciful; accept the Theotokos who bore you, as she intercedes for us, and save a people in despair, O Saviour.

For your holy name’s sake do not finally reject us, do not annul your covenant, do not take your mercy from us for the sake of Abraham, your beloved, and for the sake of Isaac, your servant, and Israel, your holy one.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

Amen.

The Thief seeing the prince of life hanging on the Cross, said: If he who is crucified with us were not God incarnate, the sun would not have hidden its rays, nor would the shaken earth be quaking. But you who bear all things, Remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

Between two thieves your Cross became the scales of justice: the one was dragged down to hell by the weight of his blasphemy, but the other lightened of his faults was raised to the knowledge of the things of God. Christ God, glory to you.

now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Seeing the Lamb and Shepherd and Saviour of the world on the Cross, she who bore Him said weeping: The world rejoices, for it receives redemption; but my inward parts burn as I see your crucifixion, which you endure for all mankind, O my Son and my God.

Lord, have mercy (x40).

O good God, so very rich in patience and mercy, who are adored and praised at all times and at every moment in heaven and on earth! You love the just and spare the sinner, inviting all to salvation with the promise of the good things to come! O Lord, accept our prayer at this time, and direct our lives according to your commandments. Sanctify our souls and bodies. Set straight our reasoning, purify and sober our understanding, and deliver us from every affliction, from every evil and illness. Surround us with your holy angels as with a rampart, that, guided and protected by their defense, we may reach unity in faith and the knowledge of your inaccessible glory. For blessed are you unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy (x3).

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

You are more honourable than the cherubim, beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim! In Virginity you gave birth to God, the word: O you who are truly Theotokos, we extol you!

Priest: May God take pity on us and bless us, show the light of his countenance on us and have mercy on us.

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust for power and idle talk. (Prostration.)

But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to your servant. (Prostration.)

Yea, O Lord and King, grant me that I may see my own faults and not judge my brothers and sisters. Blessed are you unto ages of ages. Amen (Prostration.)

God be merciful to me, a sinner. (12x.)

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust for power and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to your servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me that I may see my own faults and not judge my brothers and sisters. Blessed are you unto ages of ages. Amen (Prostration.)

When you appeared in the New World, O Theotokos,
you fixed your image on Juan Diego’s rose laden tilma.
All the poor, hungry, and oppressed seek you, Lady of Guadalupe.
We gaze upon your miraculous icon and find hope,
crying out to your Son concealed in your womb:
Hear our plea for justice, O most merciful Lord.

Kontakion of the Tone or Festival

Kontakia of the Saints

Of the Temple
Kontakion (Tone 3)
Today the choir of Saints who were pleasing to God
in the lands of North and South America
stands before us in the Church and invisibly prays to God for us.
With them the Angels glorify Him,
and all the Saints of the Church of Christ keep festival with them;
and together they all pray for us to the Pre-eternal God.

Glory…

Kontakion of the Theotokos

Kontakion Tone 7
No longer shall the New World lie wounded in useless blood sacrifice,
for she who is clothed with the sun has revealed the Son to us.
O Mother of the Americas, imprint His Name upon our hearts,
just as you wove your image into the cactus cloth.
Teach your children to cry out:
O Christ God, our hope, glory to you.

Both now…

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, O mediation unto the Creator unfailing, disdain not the suppliant voices of sinners; but be thou quick, O good one, to help us who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Trisagion:

Choir: Holy God! Holy Mighty! Holy Immortal! Have mercy on us (thrice).

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen. Holy Immortal! Have mercy on us.

Holy God! Holy Mighty! Holy Immortal! Have mercy on us.

The Prokeimeon

The Reader reads the Prokeimeon in the proper Tone for the given Sunday. These are found at the end of this publication.

The Epistle of the day.

Alleluia (three times)

The Gospel of the day

Remember us, O Lord, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember us, O Master, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember us, O Holy One, when you come in your kingdom.

The heavenly choir hymns you and says: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord Sabaoth, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Verse: Come to him and be enlightened, and your faces shall not be ashamed.

The heavenly choir hymns you and says: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord Sabaoth, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Glory.

The choir of holy Angels and Archangels with all the heavenly Powers hymns you and says: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord Sabaoth, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Both now.

Remit, forgive, pardon, O God, our offences, willing and unwilling, in deed and in word, in knowledge and in ignorance, of the day and of the night, in mind and in thought; pardon them all, as you are good and love mankind.

The Cherubim hymn

Choir: Let us who mystically represent the Cherubim and chant the thrice-holy hymn unto the life-giving Trinity, now lay aside all earthly cares.

That we may receive the King of all who cometh invisibly upborne by the angelic hosts. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

The symbol of faith
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, born of the Father before all ages: light of light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, through whom all things came into being. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven and became incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man: he was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures; and he ascended into heaven and sits at the right of the Father, and he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; of his kingdom there shall be no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who is worshipped and glorified with the Father and the Son, who spoke through the prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the remission of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

Remit, forgive, pardon, O God, our offences, willing and unwilling, in deed and in word, in knowledge and in ignorance, of the day and of the night, in mind and in thought; pardon them all, as you are good and love mankind.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your kingdom come; your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us this day the bread of Life; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

You were transfigured on the mountain, Christ God, and your disciples saw your glory, as far as they were able; so that when they saw you crucified, they might understand that your Passion was voluntary, and proclaim to the world that you are truly the brightness of the Father.

Then on Monday. Of the Angels. 2nd Tone.

Chief captains of God, ministers of divine glory, guides of mankind, and princes of the Bodiless hosts, intercede for what is for our good and for great mercy, as chief captains of the Bodiless hosts.

On Tuesday. Of the Forerunner. 2nd Tone.

Prophet of God and Forerunner of grace, having found your Head, as a most sacred rose, we ever receive gifts of healing; for once again, as of old, you are proclaiming repentance.

On Wednesday and Friday. Of the Cross. 4th Tone.

Lifted up on the Cross of your own will, grant your mercies, O Christ God, to the new commonwealth called by your name. Make your faithful people glad by your power, giving them victory over their enemies. May they have your help in battle, a weapon of peace, an invincible trophy.

On Thursday. Of the Apostles. 2nd Tone.

You have taken, Lord, the sure, the God-inspired heralds, the high peak of your Disciples, for the enjoyment of your good things and for repose; for you accepted above every offering their toils and their death, you who alone know what is in the heart.

And of Saint Nicholas. 3rd Tone.

In Myra, holy one, you were proved a true priest, for you fulfilled, venerable Father, the gospel of Christ, you laid down your life for you people, you saved the innocent from death; therefore you have been hallowed as a great initiate of God’s grace.

Every day the Martyrikon of the Tone, then

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

Of the Departed. Tone 8.

With the saints give rest, O Christ, to your servants, where there is no toil, nor grief, nor sighing, but life everlasting.

both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Theotokion. Tone 2.

Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, unfailing mediation with the Maker, do not despise the voices of us sinners as we pray; but, in your love, be quick to help us who cry to you with faith: Hasten to intercede, make speed to entreat, O Mother of God, for you ever protect those who honour you.

Priest: May God take pity on us and bless us; and show the light of his countenance on us and have mercy on us.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, who have long endured our transgressions, and brought us to this hour in which hanging on the life-giving tree you showed the good Thief the way into Paradise and destroyed death by death, have mercy also on us sinners and your unworthy servants. For we have sinned and trespassed and are not worthy to raise our eyes and look on the height of heaven; because we have abandoned the way of your justice and walked in the will of our hearts. But we implore your unbounded goodness: spare us, O Lord, according to the multitude of your mercy, and save us for your holy name’s sake, for our days have been wasted in vanity. Rescue us from the hand of our opponent, forgive us our sins, slay our carnal will, that we, having put off the old man, may put on the new, and live for you, our Master and benefactor; and that thus following your precepts we may reach eternal rest, where those who rejoice have their dwelling. For you are the true joy and gladness of those who love you, Christ our God, and to you we give glory, together with your Father who has no beginning, and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and to ages of ages. Amen.

Blessed is our God, always now and ever and unto ages of ages!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O, Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your Name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (3x)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your kingdom come; your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us this day the bread of Life; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

Psalm 5
My words, O Lord: Hear them! Give heed to my sighs, attend to my cry for help, O my king and my God! It is you I beg, O Lord: in the morning you hear me; in the morning I offer you my prayer; I prepare myself and wait for you.

For you are not a God pleased by wickedness, the sinner is not your guest; no, the arrogant dare not face you. You hate all evildoers; you make liars perish. The Lord detests the man of blood and deceit.

As for me, because of your great love, I draw near to your house; toward your holy temple I fall in worship, filled with reverence for you, O Lord. Lead me into the land of life and prosperity, for my enemies are on the watch for me; make your path straight before me.

For there is not a word of truth in their mouths; in their hearts there is nothing but ruin; their throats are yawning graves, their tongues smooth as honey. Let all the world see their guilt, O God! Let them perish in their intrigues; for their crimes without number, chase them out, for rebelling against you.

But joy for all who seek your refuge, songs of gladness forever! Since you protect them, they exult in you, those who love your name, You bless the just, O Lord; as a shield your favor covers them.

Psalm 90 (89)
Lord, you have been our refuge throughout the ages! Before the mountains were born, before the earth or the world were brought forth, you are God, without beginning or end.

Do not turn men back into dust, saying: Go back, sons of Adam! For a thousand years are but a day in your sight, like yesterday, come and gone, no more than a watch in the night.

You sweep them away like a dream in the night; they are like grass: In the morning it springs up and flowers; by evening it withers and fades.

So your anger consumes us; your wrath terrifies us. You lay bare our guilt in plain sight before you, our secrets, in the light of your face. In view of your anger our days pass away; our years are no more than a sigh.

Our lives span seventy years, or eighty for those who are strong. And most of these are emptiness and pain, for they go by quickly and we are gone. Who can understand the power of your anger; who can understand your just and rightful indignation?

Make us know the shortness of our days, that we may reach some wisdom of heart. Lord, relent! Must your anger last forever? Take pity on your servants. Each morning fill us with your love, that we may jump for joy and gladness all our lives.

Give us joy; balance our affliction for the years we knew misfortune! Show forth your work to your servants; let your glory shine on their children! Let your favor rest on us, Lord, and give success to the work of our hands; yes, give success to the work of our hands!

Psalm 101 (100)
Your love and justice will I sing; to you, O Lord, will I sing a hymn of praise. I will celebrate the epic of your perfect rule.

When will you come to me? I walk about my home in innocence of heart; never do my eyes have time for what is mean and base. Making graven images is something I detest; it has no hold on me.

The perverse of heart are never near me; the evil man is not my friend. The man who slanders his neighbor in secret — I will cut him down. Proud looks and puffed up heart, these I cannot bear.

I will look to the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. The man who walks the path of blamelessness, he may work in my service. There is no room in my house for one who practices deceit; the liar had better not stand where I can see him.

Morning after morning I will expel all the wicked of the land; I will banish every evildoer from the city of the Lord.

In the morning you hear me, my king and my God.

My words, O Lord: Hear them! Give heed to my sighs

In the morning you hear me, my king and my God.

It is you I beg, O Lord, I offer you my prayer

In the morning you hear me, my king and my God.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

What shall we call you, O Full of grace? Heaven? For you made the Sun of righteousness to dawn. Paradise? For you made the flower of incorruption blossom. Virgin? For you remained incorrupt. Pure Mother? For you held in your holy embrace a Son who is the God of all. Implore him that our souls may be saved.

Steady my steps as you promised; never let wrongdoing master me. (2x)

Deliver me from the slander of men, and I shall keep your commandments. (2x)

Smile with favor on your servant, and teach me to know your decrees. (2x)

My mouth is filled with your praise; I tell out your glory and your majesty throughout the day! (3x)

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us.

Amen.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
With our hearts and lips, let us sing unceasing hymns to the most glorious Theotokos. She is holier than the holy andgels and, indeed, the Mother of God for she has truly given birth to the Incarnate God. Unceasing is her intercession for our souls!

Wednesday, Friday
In haste come to us, Christ our God, before we fall as slaves to those who blaspheme against you and threaten our lives. Only Lover of Humankind defend us with your cross and strengthen our faith, through the intercessions of the Theotokos.

Saturday
O Lord, Creator of the World, who orders all things, he Universe offers to you the Gd-bearing martyrs as the firs fruits of creation. Through their prayers keep the church and our land in abiding peace, at the intercessions of the Theotokos, O most Merciful One!

Lord, have mercy. (12x)

Christ, the true light, who enlighten and hallow everyone who comes into the world, may the light of your countenance be signed upon us, that in it we may see your unapproachable light; and direct our steps to the doing of your commandments; at the intercessions of your most pure Mother and of all your Saints. Amen.

THIRD HOUR

Come, let us worship God, our King, and bow down before him.
Come, let us worship Christ God, our King, and bow down before him.
Come, let us worship Christ, our King and our God, and bow down before him.

Psalm 17 (16)
Listen, Lord, to what is just! Give ear to my cries! Lend an ear to my prayer, for my lips are free of deceit. Judge my cause, for your eyes discern truth.

Sound out my heart and visit me at night; try me, and you will find no wrong in me. For my mouth has not sinned as evil men are used to doing. The words of your lips I have kept. I have clung to the ways of your law, in your footsteps, lest my feet stumble.

Here I am, entreating you: Answer me, O God! Turn your ear to me and listen to my words. Show me your love, O saviour of outcasts; from those who rebel against you, keep me safe, as the apple of your eye. In the shadow of your wings, hide me from these godless ones who hound me.

My foes breathe heavily as they close in on me; self-satisfied in their abundance, their mouths speak proudly. They advance against me stealthily, hemming me in on all sides; they watch, ready to strike me to the ground; like lions are they, ready to claw, like the young lion, crouching in ambush.

Rise up, Lord! Confront them and strike them down! With your sword, rescue my soul from the wicked. Let your hand snatch me away from these men, from these men who receive their reward in this life.

As for your treasured ones, fill their bellies with your great wealth; gladden them with sons; allow them to leave their wealth to their children. My reward will be to see your face, on rising, to enjoy the sight of your glory.

Psalm 24
To you, O Lord, do I lift my soul! My God, in you I trust! Do not disappoint me, lest my enemies jeer at me. Do not disappoint any of those who look to you, but disappoint the treacherous in their schemes.

Make me know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Guide me along the path of your truth, and teach me well, for you are the God of my salvation; it is you I look to at all times.

In your goodness, Lord, remember your mercy and your love, for they are as old as time itself. Do not remember the mistakes of my youth; but me, in your love remember me! In your kindness remember me, in keeping with your goodness, O Lord.

The Lord is upright and good; he points out his path to those who stray. He directs the humble along the path of justice; he teaches his way to the oppressed.

All the Lord’s ways are love and truth for those who keep their word and abide by his precepts. For your name’s sake, Lord, wash away my guilt, great as it is.

If a man reveres the Lord, he will show him the path to choose. His soul will enjoy prosperity, and his children will inherit the land.

The Lord’s friendship is for those who revere him; to them he reveals his covenant. My eyes are forever fixed on the Lord, for it is he who frees my feet from the snare.

Turn to me and pity me, lonely wretch that I am! Relieve the anguish of my heart; do away with my distress. Look upon my misery and pain; forgive me all my sins. See how many are my foes, how intense their hatred of me.

Protect me and save me; do not disappoint me, for you are my refuge. May innocence and righteousness protect me, for I trust in you, O Lord. Rescue Israel, O God, from all its troubles.

Psalm 51 (50)
Have mercy on me, O God, in your kindness; in your great tenderness, wipe out my sin. Over and over again, cleanse me of all malice; from my fault purify me.

For my sin is only too clear to me; my sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your eyes, this I have done. You are just when you sentence, without reproach when you judge.

For in guilt itself was I born; a sinner my mother conceived. But you love truth at the heart of my being; teach me wisdom deep within me.

Purify me: I shall be cleaner than spring water; wash me: I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear the sound of joy and feasting; let them dance, these bones you have crushed. Turn your face away from my sins; cleanse me of all malice.

O God, create in me a pure heart, in my belly, a new and constant spirit. Do not banish me from your presence; do not deprive me of your holy spirit.

Give me back the joy of your help; insure within me a spirit of fervor, that I may teach sinners your ways, that the misguided may return to you.

Rescue me from death, O God, my saving God, and my tongue shall ring out your justice! Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

For you take no delight in sacrifice; were I to make a burnt offering, you would want no part of it. The best sacrifice, a broken spirit; a heart broken and crushed you have never disdained, O God.

In your kindness, be good to Sion: Rebuild Jerusalem within its walls! Then you will delight in just sacrifices — burnt offerings completely consumed! — then will they lay calves upon your altar!

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the holy Spirit. Both now and for ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Glory to you, O God (x3 – with three prostrations).

Then one Kathisma of the Psalter with three prostrations after each Antiphon.

Lord, who at the third hour sent down your all-holy Spirit on your Apostles, do not take him from us, O Good One, but renew him in us who pray to you.

And as we repeat it we make a prostration to the ground, and likewise at the following two Verses.

Create a clean heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Lord, who at the third hour sent down your all-holy Spirit on your Apostles, do not take him from us, O Good One, but renew him in us who pray to you.

Do not cast me from your presence, do not take your Holy Spirit from me.

Lord, who at the third hour sent down your all-holy Spirit on your Apostles, do not take him from us, O Good One, but renew him in us who pray to you.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

A real vine, you are, O Theotokos, for from you there flowered forth the fruit of life. And because of this we entreat you, O Lady: with the apostles and all the saints, beg him to have mercy on us.

Blessed be the Lord God! Day after day he bears our burdens; God himself is our saviour: Blessed be God! God is for us a God who saves!

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us.

For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, are yours: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Blessed are you, Christ our God, showing the fishermen to be most wise, by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit. Through them you have drawn the whole world into your net. O lover of humankind, glory to you.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

Give swift and stable comfort to your servants, O Jesus, in the weariness of our spirits; in afflictions do not part from our souls, in troubles do not go far from our minds, but be always before us. Come near us, come near us, you who are everywhere. As you were always with your Apostles, so, Merciful One, unite yourself to those who long for you, that united to you we may hymn and glorify your all-holy Spirit.

both now and for ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Immaculate Mother of God, you are the hope, protection and refuge of Christians, their unassailable wall, the untroubled harbour of the exhausted; but as you save the world by your unceasing intercession, remember us too, Virgin all-praised.

Priest: May God take pity on us and bless us; and show the light of his countenance on us and have mercy on us.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

O, Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your Name’s sake.

For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, are yours: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (12x)

O God and Master! Father almighty, only Son, and Holy Spirit! O unique power and divinity! Have mercy on me, a sinner, and in your omniscience, save me, your servant, unworthy as I am, for you are blessed unto ages of ages. Amen.

Through the prayers of our holy Fathers and Mothers, O Lord, Jesus Christ have mercy on us! Amen.

O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
O God, cleanse me, a sinner, and have mercy on me.
Having created me, O Lord, have mercy on me.
Countless times I have sinned, O Lord, forgive me.
My Queen, most holy Theotokos, save me, a sinner,
Holy Guardian Angel, protect me from all evil.
Holy Father, Raphael, pray to God for me.

Blessed are you, Lord God, creator of day and night: to you be praise and glory for ever. As darkness falls you renew your promise to reveal among us the light of your presence. By the light of Christ, your living Word, dispel the darkness of our hearts that we may walk as children of light and sing your praise throughout the world. Amen.

Glory to you, our God, glory to you.

O heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, everywhere present and filling all things; Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and abide in us and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O good one.

The Lamp Lighting

Holding Up Christ Candle, Presider says:

Wisdom! Stand aright!

He blesses the people with the candle, singing:

Behold Christ, the light of the Universe!

While all the lamps are lit, all sing:

O Gracious Light Lord Jesus Christ
In You the Father’s Glory Shone
Immortal Holy Bless’d is He and Bless’d are you His Only Son.

Now sunset comes but light shines forth
the lamps are lit to pierce the night
praise Father Son and Spirit God
Who dwells in the Eternal Light

Worthy are you of endless praise
O Son of God life-giving Lord
Wherefore you are through all the worlds
and in the Highest Heaven adored.

Presider: Let us pray to the Lord!
O Great and exalted God, who alone are immortal and dwell in unapproachable light! In your wisdom you created the entire universe. you separated light from darkness, giving the sun charge of the day, and the moon and stars the night. Now at this very hours, you permit us, sinful as we are, to approach you with our evening hymns of praise and glory. In you r love for us, direct our prayers as incense in your sight, and accept them as a delightful fragrance. Throughout this present evening and the night to come, fill us with your peace. Clothe us in the armor of light, rescue us from the terror of night and from everything that creeps about in darkness and give us that sleep you designed to soothe our weakness, a sleep free of all evil dreams. For you are good and full of love for us, o God, and we give you glory, Father Son and Holy SPirit: now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

All: Come, let us worship and fall down before our God and King!
Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our God and King!
Come, let us worship and fall down before the smae Lord, JEsus Christ, our God and King!

A reader begins: Psalm 104(103)

Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord, my God, you are great indeed — clothed in majesty and splendor, robed in light as with a cloak. You spread out the heavens like a tent-cloth, you built your towering palace far above their waters; making the clouds your chariot, you travel on the wings of the wind; you use the winds for messengers, for servants, the flaming fire.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

You fixed the earth on its foundations, never to be disturbed. With the deep you covered it, as with a garment; the waters rose higher than the mountains; you rebuked them and they took to flight; at the sound of your thunder they fled: cascading down through the mountains, they flowed through the valleys to the place you gave them; you set a limit they may not pass, lest they cover the earth again.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

From ravines you make springs gush forth into watercourses that wind among the mountains; they give drink to all the beasts of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst; the birds of heaven dwell on their banks; from among the branches they send forth their song. From your towering palace you water the hills; the earth drinks its fill of your gift. You make grass grow for cattle and plants for man’s use, that he may bring forth bread from the earth, and wine to gladden man’s heart, oil to make his face glisten, and bread to strengthen his heart. The trees of the Lord drink their fill, the cedars he planted on Lebanon; there, the sparrows make their nest; in the treetops the stork has its home; for the wild goats there are the mountains; for the rock-badgers, the boulders and cliffs.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

You made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows when to set; you bring darkness and it is night, and all the beasts of the forest roam about; young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. The sun rises, and they withdraw to their dens; man goes forth to his work, to labor till evening falls.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

How manifold are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you wrought them all! The earth overflows with your riches! And the sea! Look how great and wide! With its moving swarms past counting of living things both great and small. There the ships sail back and forth, and Leviathan, whom you made to play with.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

They all look to you, hoping for food when it is time; you give it to them and they gather it up; you open your hand and they eat their fill.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

If you hide your face, they are restless and troubled; when you take away their breath, they perish and return to the dust they came from. You send forth your breath and they are created; and you renew the face of the earth. May the glory of the Lord last forever! May the Lord take pleasure in all his works! He looks at the earth and it trembles; he touches the mountains and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life! I will sing for joy in my God as long as I live! May my song ever please him, that I may rejoice in the Lord. Away with sinners from the face of the earth! Let the wicked be no more! Bless the Lord, O my soul!

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

The Sun knows when to set; you bring darkness and it is night. How manifold are your works O Lord! In wisdom you wrought them all!

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Both now and for ever and unto Ages of Ages. Amen!

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Glory to you O God! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Glory to you O God! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Glory to you O God!

Presider: Let us pray to the Lord!
O you who are ever praised by holy powers with their unceasing hymns of endless praise and glory, fill our mouths with your praise, that we may ever extol your holy name, and give us also, a share in the inheritance of all who truly hold you in awe and keep your commandments: Do this for the sake of the Theotokos and all your saints. For you deserve all glory, honour and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Incense Rite

Presider: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!
All: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!

Presider: O Lord, I cry to you; hear me! Hear my voice when I call to you!
All: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!

Presider: Set a guard at my mouth, O Lord; keep watch at the door of my lips.
All: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!

Presider: Let not my heart turn to wrong, to making excuses for sinning with the wicked.
All: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!

Presider sings the appointed verses for the incense psalms. After each, the response is the same
All: Let my prayer rise like incense before you; my hands, like the evening sacrifice!

The last verses have these two responses:
All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

All: Both now and for ever and unto Ages of Ages. Amen!

Presider: Let us pray to the Lord!
In the evening, in the morning, and at midday, we praise and bless you, we give thanks to you, and we entreat you, master of all things, O Lord and Lover of us all and let not our hearts be taken up with evil words and thoughts, but rescue us from all those who hunt after our souls. Our eyes are firmly fixed on your, O Lord, and on you do we count: Do not disappoint us. For you deserve all glory, honour and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Prokiemenon

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

O God, by you name save me! By your power prove me rit! O God, heed my prayer; listen to the words of my mouth!

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

Reader: Foreigners rise up to attack me; ruthless men hunt down my soul; they have no room for you in their hearts.

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

Reader: But see! God comes to help me: the Lord who is the true sustainer of my life. Let evil recoil upon my foes, lord; in your faithfulness destroy them!

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

Reader: With a willing heart I will offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name for its goodness, O Lord.

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

Reader: O, that you would rescue me from all anguish and make my foes really something to behold!

All: O God, by your name save! * By your power prove me right!

Reader: O God, by your name save me!

All: By your power prove me right!

The Reading

Each reading is introduced and closed off in this same manner:

Presider: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from…

Presider: Let us attend!

After the reading:

Presider: Peace to you!

Reader: And to your spirit!

A period of silence follow the reading.

After the reading(s):

All: Count us worthy, Lord, of passing this evening without sin.
Blessed are you, Lord God of our fathers and mothers, praised and glorified by your name forever. Amen.
Let your mercy descend upon us, Lord, for we place our hope in you.
Blessed are you Lord; teach me your law.
Blessed are you Master; make me to understand your commandments.
Blessed are you Holy One; fill my mind with the wisdom of your decrees.
Despise not the work you hands have down; remember, Lord, your percy is eternal.
And eternally do you deserve all our praise, all our songs of glory, Father, Son and Holy SPirit: now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Aposticha

Here we sing the Aposticha as appointed in the books.

Then:

The Canticle of Simeon

All: Now you may let your servant go in peace, master, as you said you would. For my eyes have seen the salvation you prepared for all people: a light to enlighten the nations and to give glory to your people, Israel.

All: Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

Protect them…from all their enemies, from every assault of the powers of Hell, from vain and useless thoughts and from evil imaginations. And may your mighty power be bless’d and glorified, Father Son and Holy Spirit: now and forever, and unto ages of ages.

Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen)
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine evyes of mercy toward us.
And after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God:
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help, and sought Thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To Thee I come; before Thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

O Victorious Leader of Triumphant Hosts!
We, your servants, delivered from evil,
As you possess invincible might,
set us free from every calamity
So that we may sing: Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!

Prayer to God the Father

Presider: It is proper and right to sing to You, bless You, praise You, thank, You and worship You in all places of Your creation; for You are God beyond description, beyond comprehension, invisible, existing forever and always the same; You and Your only begotten Son and Your Holy Spirit. You brought us into being out of nothing, and when we fell, You raised us up again. You did not cease doing everything until You led us to heaven and granted us Your kingdom to come. For all these things we thank You and Your only begotten Son and Your Holy Spirit; for all things that we know and do not know, for blessings seen and unseen that have been bestowed upon us. We also thank You for this liturgy which You are pleased to accept from our hands, even though You are surrounded by all the hosts of heaven singing the victory hymn, proclaiming, crying out:

All: Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts. Heaven and earth are filled with Your glory; hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.

Prayer to God the Son

Presider: Together with these blessed powers, merciful Master, we also sing: You are holy and most holy, and sublime is Your glory. You so loved Your world that You gave Your only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. Jesus came and fulfilled the divine plan for us. On the night when He was delivered up, or rather when He gave Himself up for the life of the world, He took bread in His pure, and blameless hands, gave thanks, blessed + sanctified, broke it and gave it to His holy disciples and apostles, saying: Take, eat, this is my Body which is broken for you for the forgiveness of sins.
All: Amen.

Presider: Likewise, after supper, He took the cup + saying: Drink of it all of you; this is my Blood of the new Covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
All: Amen.

Presider: Remembering, therefore, this command of the Savior, and everything that was done for our sake, the cross, the tomb, the resurrection on the third day, the ascension into heaven, the enthronement at the right hand of the Father, the second and glorious coming again, we offer You Your own, from what is Your own, in all for the sake of all.

All: We praise You, we bless You, we thank You, O Lord, and we pray to You, our God.

Presider: Again we offer to You this spiritual worship, and we ask, pray, and beseech You: Send down Your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts here offered.

Presider: Changing them by Your Holy Spirit.
All: Amen. Amen. Amen.

Presider: So that those who partake of them will enjoy vigilance of the soul, remission of sin, fellowship of the Holy Spirit, the fullness of Your heavenly Kingdom, and intimate confidence in You. And not judgment or condemnation. Again we offer this spiritual worship for those who repose in the faith, our holy ancestors, patriarchs, prophets, apostles, preachers, evangelists, martyrs, confessors, ascetics, and for every righteous spirit made perfect in faith. Especially for our most holy, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever virgin Mary.

All: More honourable than the Cherumbim and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim, in virginity you gave birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, we exalt you!

Presider: +The mercy of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Presider: We entrust to You, loving Master, our whole life and hope, and we ask: Make us worthy to partake of Your heavenly and awesome Mysteries from this spiritual Table with a clear conscience; for the remission of sins, forgiveness of transgressions, communion of the Holy Spirit, inheritance of the kingdom of heaven. And grant, O Lord, that we may, with confidence, call upon You, Father, the God of heaven, and say:

All: + Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from temptation, and deliver us from the Evil One.

All: One is Holy, one is Lord, Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

All: O Lord, I believe and profess that You are truly Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. Accept me as a partaker of Your mystical supper, O Son of God; for I will not reveal Your mystery to Your enemies, nor will I give You a kiss as did Judas, but like the thief I confess to You: Remember me, O Lord, when You shall come into Your kingdom. Remember me, O Master, when You shall come into Your kingdom. Remember me, O Holy One, when You shall come into Your kingdom. May the partaking of Your Holy Mysteries, O Lord, be not for my judgment or condemnation, but for the healing of my soul and body.

These verses from Psalm 34 – or the Psalm of the day or another suitable Psalm – may be sung with or without an alleluia refrain.

I will bless the Lord at all times; ever shall his praise be on my lips! In the Lord shall my soul glory; let the lowly hear and be glad. Come extol the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; from all my fears he delivered me. Whoever looks to him will beam with joy; no longer will he hang his head in shame. Here was a poor wretch who cried out to the Lord: The Lord heard him and rescued him from all his distress. The angel of the Lord is ever encamped with those who revere him, to rescue them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy is he who takes refuge in him. Revere the Lord, all you, his holy ones; those who revere him want for nothing. The rich suffer want and go hungry, but those who revere the Lord never lack anything.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Glory to you O God! (3x)

Presider: May he who is, Christ our God, be blessed, now and ever and unto ages of ages!

Presider: Wisdom is brilliant, she never fades.

By those who love her, she is easily seen,

by those who seek her, she is readily found.

She is a breath of God’s power

an image of God’s goodness

Now let + Wisdom do all things,

renew all things,

and pass into holy souls everywhere

All:	Amen.

Reader:	The reading is from the holy Gospel according to the glorious Apostle and Evangelist Saint N. Let us be attentive.
All:	+Glory be to You, O Lord, glory be to You.

The Gospel is read.

All:	+Glory be to You, O Lord, glory be to You.

Canon

Presider:	The + grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.
All:	And with your spirit.
Presider:	Let us lift up our hearts.
All:	We lift them up to the Lord.
Presider:	Let us give thanks to the Lord.

All:	It is proper and just to worship the Father, + and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Trinity one in essence, and undivided.

Prayer to God the Holy Spirit

Presider:	Again we offer to You this spiritual worship, and we ask, pray, and beseech You: Send down Your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts here offered. And make this + bread the Body of Your Christ.
All:	Amen.

Presider:	And that which is in this + cup, the Blood of Your Christ.
All:	Amen.

All:	It is truly proper to glorify you, who have borne God, the Ever blessed, and most pure and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who a virgin, gave birth to God the Word, you, true Theotokos we magnify.

Presider:	+The mercy of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ be with all of you.
All:	And with your spirit.

Presider:	For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory of the Father + the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
All:	Amen.

Presider:	Holy Things for the Holy.

All:	One is Holy, one is Lord, Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

O Lord, I believe and profess that You are truly Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first.

Eucharist is distributed to the faithful.

Presider:	Having received the divine, holy, most pure, immortal, heavenly, and life creating, awesome mysteries of Christ, let us worthily give thanks to the Lord.
All:	Lord have mercy.

Presider:	Protect us, save us, have mercy on us and preserve us, O God, by Your grace.
All:	Lord have mercy.

Presider:	Asking that the whole day be perfect, holy, peaceful, and without sin, let us comend ourselves and one another, and our whole life, to Christ our God.
All:	To You, O Lord.

Presider:	We thank You, O Master lover of all mankind, benefactor of our souls, that this day You have deemed us worthy of Your heavenly and immortal mysteries. Make straight our path, confirm us in our awe of You, guard our life, make firm our steps, through the prayers and intercession of the glorious Theotokos and of all Your saints. For You are our sanctification, and we offer glory to You, + Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever.
All:	Amen.

Presider:	Let us depart in peace.
All:	In the name of the Lord

According to the usage of the Antiochian Archdiocese, modified by Eastern Rite Anglicans with texts from New Skete and Byzantine Daily Worship. The Eucharistic Rite is the Didache table liturgy. While the evening liturgy usually includes a meal, in this form it is more appropriate for the meal to follow the service rather than to be included.

All gather in the darkening temple. The daily psalms may proceed the service. A reading from the synaxarion or other daily text may be read first. Afterwards the liturgy begins with the Office of Light:

Presider prays quietly before the altar:

Amen.

All now sing Trisagion:
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3x)

Troparion and Kontakion
Of the saints of the day or the festival. Then:

Of the Temple
As the bountiful harvest of Your sowing of salvation,
the lands of North and South America offer to You, O Lord,
all the saints who have shone forth in them.
By their prayers keep the Church and our land in abiding peace
through the Theotokos, O most Merciful One!

You were transfigured on the mountain O Christ our God,
showing your friends as much of your glory as they could bear,
so that when they see you on the cross, they will understand that you suffer freely
and they will tell the world that you are indeed the radiance of the father!

Today the choir of Saints who were pleasing to God
in the lands of North and South America
stands before us in the Church and invisibly prays to God for us.
With them the Angels glorify Him,
and all the Saints of the Church of Christ keep festival with them;
and together they all pray for us to the Pre-eternal God.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit:

Kontakion of the Theotokos
No longer shall the New World lie wounded in useless blood sacrifice,
for she who is clothed with the sun has revealed the Son to us.
O Mother of the Americas, imprint His Name upon our hearts,
just as you wove your image into the cactus cloth.
Teach your children to cry out:
O Christ God, our hope, glory to you.

Both now and forever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Steadfast Protection of Christians, constant advocate before the Creator, despise not the cry of us sinners, but in your goodness come speedily to help us who call on you in faith, hasten to hear our petition and to intercede for us, O Theotokos, for you always protect those who honor yo.

Readings

Presider: Peace be to all!

All: And to your spirit!

Presider: Wisdom! Let us attend!

Reader begins the Prokimenon.

Each Reading (OT or Epistle) in introduced as follows:

Presider: Wisdom!
Reader: The reading is from….
Presider: Let us attend!

After the last reading (or after each reading, if more than one reader) the Presider says:
Peace to you, Reader.

Apostika

Here is said/sung the Apostika of the feast. Then:

Gospel

Let us pray to the Lord!
Lord Jesus Christ! You told your friends that many prophets and just ones had desired to see what they were seeing and to hear what they were hearing. So, now, count us worthy of hearing your words of salvation that, truly understanding them, we may bring forth fruit worthy of their message. Enable us to adhere to truth and innocence of life and to persevere in goodness, lest we remain but passive recipients of this good news. For you are the way, the truth, and the life, o Christ, our God, and we give glory to you, your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit: no and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Presider: That the Lord God will count us worthy of hearing his good news, let us pray!

All: Lord, have mercy! (3x)

Presider: Wisdom! Stand aright! Let us listen to the holy Gospel according to _______

All: Glory to you, O Lord, glory to you!

Presider: Let us attend!

He reads the Gospel. After the reading all reply:

All: Glory to you, O Lord, glory to you!

Prayers

V: For a Christian end to our lives: unashamed, peaceful and without suffering, and for the right answer before the awesome judgement seat of Christ, let us entreat the Lord.
R: Grant it, O Lord.

V: As we call to mind our most holy, most pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves, one another and our entire life to Christ, our God.
R: To You, O Lord.

All sing the Jerusalem Troparion of the feast.

All: For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, are yours: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Psalm 51 may be said here – or the psalm of the day – with an alleluia refrain after set verses:

Have mercy on me, O God, in your kindness; in your great tenderness, wipe out my sin. Over and over again, cleanse me of all malice; from my fault purify me.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

For my sin is only too clear to me; my sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your eyes, this I have done. You are just when you sentence, without reproach when you judge.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

For in guilt itself was I born; a sinner my mother conceived. But you love truth at the heart of my being; teach me wisdom deep within me.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Purify me: I shall be cleaner than spring water; wash me: I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear the sound of joy and feasting; let them dance, these bones you have crushed.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Turn your face away from my sins; cleanse me of all malice. O God, create in me a pure heart, in my belly, a new and constant spirit.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Do not banish me from your presence; do not deprive me of your holy spirit. Give me back the joy of your help; insure within me a spirit of fervor, that I may teach sinners your ways, that the misguided may return to you.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Rescue me from death, O God, my saving God, and my tongue shall ring out your justice! Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

For you take no delight in sacrifice; were I to make a burnt offering, you would want no part of it. The best sacrifice, a broken spirit; a heart broken and crushed you have never disdained, O God.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

In your kindness, be good to Sion: Rebuild Jerusalem within its walls! Then you will delight in just sacrifices — burnt offerings completely consumed! — then will they lay calves upon your altar!

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glory to you, O God! 3x

The Cup

Presider: We thank you, our Father, for the holy vine of David your servant, which you made known to us through Jesus your Servant

All: Glory to you for ever.

The cup is shared with everyone.

The Bread

Leader: We thank you, our Father, for the life and knowledge which you made known to us through Jesus your Servant.

All: Glory to you for ever.

Leader: Even as this broken bread was scattered over the hills, and was gathered together and became one, so let your Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom.

All: For yours is the glory and the power through Jesus Christ for ever.

The bread is shared round the table and there is silence and discussion. (Sermon, etc.)

After a while:

Presider: We thank you, holy Father, for your holy name which you have caused to tabernacle in our hearts, and for the knowledge and faith and immortality, which you made known to us through Jesus your Servant.

All: Glory to you for ever.

Presider: Master almighty, you created all things for you name’s sake; you gave food and drink to men for enjoyment, that they might give thanks to you; but to us you freely give spiritual food and drink and life eternal through your Servant. Before all things we thank you that you are mighty.

All: Glory to you for ever.

Presider: Remember, Lord, your Church, to deliver it from all evil and to make it perfect in your love, and gather it from the four winds, sanctified for your kingdom which you have prepared for it;

All: For yours is the power and the glory now and ever and unto ages of ages.

All sing the “Thrice Holy Hymn”:

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts
Heaven and Earth are full of your Glory.
Hosanna in the Highest!
Blessed is the One who comes in the Name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the Highest!

All: Maranatha! Amen.

Thanksgiving
+

All Sing the Magnification of the feast or the Troparion of the Saint or Day.

Then these verses from Psalm 34 – or the Psalm of the day or another suitable Psalm – may be sung with an alleluia refrain during any cleanup, or as a thanksgiving. Otherwise skip directly to the Dismissal and Blessing, below.

I will bless the Lord at all times; ever shall his praise be on my lips!
In the Lord shall my soul glory; let the lowly hear and be glad. Come extol the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; from all my fears he delivered me. Whoever looks to him will beam with joy; no longer will he hang his head in shame.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Here was a poor wretch who cried out to the Lord: The Lord heard him and rescued him from all his distress. The angel of the Lord is ever encamped with those who revere him, to rescue them.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy is he who takes refuge in him.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Revere the Lord, all you, his holy ones; those who revere him want for nothing. The rich suffer want and go hungry, but those who revere the Lord never lack anything.

All respond: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Glory to you, O God. (3x)

Dismissal and Blessing

Presider: Wisdom!

All: Bless us!

Presider: May he who Is, Christ our True God, be blessed, now and forever and unto ages of ages!

All: Amen

Presider: Glory to you, O Jesus Christ, Our God and Our Hope, Glory to you.

All: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Presider: Most Holy Theotokos Save us!

All: More honourable than the Cherumbim and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, we magnify you.

Lord be merciful and bless us!

Presider gives the blessing:

Wisdom is brilliant, she never fades.
By those who love her, she is easily seen,
by those who seek her, she is readily found.
She is a breath of God’s power
an image of God’s goodness
the eternal light and mirror of God’s glory.
Now let + Wisdom do all things, renew all things,
and pass into holy souls everywhere
to make them friends of God.

All: Maranatha! Amen!

Presider : The Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy SPirit be with you all!

All : And also with you

Presider : Lift up your hearts

All : We lift them to the Lord.

Presider : Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All : It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Presider : God whose love knows no limit,
when you spoke your Word into darkness
sun, moon and stars shone forth,
seas teemed with life and the play of Leviathan.
Mountains rose, earth sprouted grass and trees;
birds soared, lambs jumped, lions roared,
and people joined in singing creation’s hymn
as now we praise and bless you.

All : We praise you we bless you we give thanks to you and we pray to you Lord our God.

Presider : Faithful and merciful God, your promise is true:
as once you redeemed slaves into freedom,
in the fullness of time you sent your son Jesus
to fulfill the prophets and free all humankind –
You anointed him with your Spirit
to preach good news to the poor
and make the broken-hearted whole.
He healed the sick and gave sight to the blind.
He freed people from demons and oppressors.
He proclaimed the time of your favor,
welcoming sinners and righteous
to feast together in your friendship.
Blessing just and unjust alike,
he revealed your perfection and taught us to be like you.

Deacon : Now giving thanks for Jesus’ work, let us pray for the poor, the sick, and the dying.

—free prayers from People

Deacon : Pray for prisoners, and all who suffer at others’ hands

—free prayers from People

Presider : Healing God, in the wholeness
of your love, we praise and bless you.

All : We praise you we bless you we give thanks to you and we pray to you Lord our God.

Presider : Father and Mother of all, your son Jesus
served and loved us till the end.
On the night of his passion,
knowing he would suffer and die for his friends,
Jesus kept his feast
and commanded us to remember him always
when we receive this broken bread and shared wine,
his body and blood poured out for us all.
That night before his friend betrayed him
and enemy soldiers took him away to be killed,
he knelt down and washed his friends’ feet,
so we pray to love one another as he loved us:
bring us together, God, and make us one in your love.

Deacon : Pray for enemies and friends.
—free prayers from People

Deacon : Pray for peacemakers and soldiers.
—free prayers from People

Presider : Reconciling God, in our many voices
hear your own harmony,
as we sing to praise and bless you

All : We praise you we bless you we give thanks to you and we pray to you Lord our God.

Presider : Living God, you raised Jesus from the dead,
now show us all you have promised:
Your Spirit filling the whole world, and conquering death.
Show us here the Body and Blood of Jesus your Son,
whose breath and heartbeat move through all creation.
Nourish and transform us through this bread and wine
which give life to the world.
Open our eyes to see your work around us
that we may join in with all who have gone before,
living as Jesus lives, and loving as he loves.

Deacon : Give thanks for God’s work where we see it.
—free prayers from People

Deacon : Pray for those who have died and for those who mourn them.
—free prayers from People

Presider : God who unites us,
we pray that all our work all our thanksgiving,
and all our praise may find in your embrace communion
with Mary Jesus’ mother,
with Gregory and Theosevia his wife, with all the Saints who have shown forth in North and South America,
and with God’s beloved people in every time and place as
we join with them in the angels’ song:

[Sanctus and Benedictus]
